The summer months are characterised by hikers bearing maps and carrying rucksacks. If you jump in the car and travel a bit further you can visit Cirencester and the Cotswolds, Roman Bath, Avebury Stone Circle, Caen Locks at Devizes, and Oxford the university city. Wanborough High Street forms part of Ermin Street, Roman Road which leads from London to Cirencester. Although now by-passed as a major route, the role that the road has played in British history as recently as the 2nd World War is evidenced by the myriad of collectables uncovered nearby.
One of the ways that the past is still remembered is the Dobbin Day ceremony, whereby each February "Dobbin" bread is distributed by Wanborough village Church as instructed in the will of an 18th century landowner. The bread was intended for the poor of the village but these days the recipients are the children of the local primary school!
More recently, the renovation of two Cottages in the High Street featured in a Channel 4 T.V. programme which was screened in April 2008.
